Tom Reich, the agent for unsigned baseball free agent Tim Raines, says Seattle Mariners’ owner George Argyros was “grandstanding” when he said he was ready to offer Raines a two-year contract.

“Neither of us has anything against Seattle,” Reich said. “It’s a fine city, but that isn’t one of the teams of his choice. George Argyros has known that for at least two months.”

Argyros said that he was ready to offer Raines a two-year contract comparable to the two-year, $2.2-million offer made to Raines by the San Diego Padres. Raines turned down the Padres’ offer.
