TV Should Have Power to Silence P.A. Announcer

Share

I was watching the North Carolina-Notre Dame NCAA regional semifinal game and was planning to watch the Syracuse-Florida game to be shown later on tape delay. The announcers, Billy Packer and Brent Musburger, were careful not to disclose the score of the Syracuse-Florida game. Unfortunately, at the conclusion of the North Carolina game, the public address announcer at the arena revealed that North Carolina would play Syracuse in the regional final!

When I called KCBS to complain, the response was that the network had no control over the P.A. announcer and this happens every year! I submit that a network like CBS, which has the power to delay the start of games to fit its schedules and interrupt the flow of the games to insert their commercials, certainly has the power to require P.A. announcers to delay divulging results of games that they are planning to televise. Failing this, they should cut away from the game immediately and go to their studio.
