A former National University admissions counselor was sentenced to 60 days in a halfway house for lying to authorities about a pipe bomb investigation.
Charges of mailing the bomb were dismissed against Timothy Marusich, 24, of San Diego.
Juries in two trials deadlocked over Marusich’s guilt or innocence, but one jury convicted him of making false statements to an investigator about some vandalism committed against the victim’s car.
U.S. District Judge Earl Gilliam Jr. also ordered Marusich to perform 250 hours of community service and pay a $750 fine. A three-year federal prison term was suspended.
