An Oakland judge found 17-year-old Gina Florio of Fremont guilty of first-degree murder, rejecting defense arguments that she was too drunk to know what she was doing when she and a friend stabbed a Japanese exchange student more than 100 times. In chillingly graphic testimony last week, the girl admitted that she and Corey Evan Glassman, also 17, robbed and killed Junko (Jane) Owaki, 18, on Feb. 18, 1986. Alameda County Superior Court Judge Martin Pulich, who heard the case without a jury, called the murder a “deplorable and senseless tragedy.” Pulich can send Florio to state prison for up to 26 years to life when he sentences her April 27.
