A suspect in the robbery of a gas station and convenience store was arrested early Tuesday after a chase through two cities.

Police Sgt. Chet Barry said the suspect, Glenn Ellwood Stacy, 39, of Torrance, was booked into City Jail on suspicion of armed robbery.

The clerk at the convenience store in the 2400 block of West Lincoln Avenue flagged a passing patrolman shortly after the shop was robbed about 2 a.m., Barry said.

The officer broadcast a description of a getaway car and moments later, Barry said, a car matching the description was spotted on West Lincoln with its headlights off. Officers chased it north to Beach Boulevard and then about five miles to Stage Road in Buena Park, where the car spun out of control in a doughnut shop parking lot.

The driver fled on foot into a commercial area. Officers in a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department helicopter and Buena Park police on the ground helped find the suspect.

It was not known how much money was taken from the gas station and convenience store.
