Culver City : Panel to Oversee Student Clinic

Share

The Board of Education will form a community advisory committee to oversee a planned student health clinic, according to school district officials.

The board is preparing the bylaws under which the committee will set operating policies for the clinic, said Dr. Vera Jashni, assistant district superintendent. Kay Lyou, chairwoman of the school board, said the committee will be made up of volunteers.

The clinic, proposed last year by the UCLA schools of medicine and public health, will open on the joint campus of Culver City High School and Middle School between September, 1987, and January, 1988, according to a UCLA release. UCLA is still seeking funding for the clinic, said Dr. Thomas Long, coordinator of the clinic project.

The clinic will offer about 17 health-related services, including routine physical exams, treatment for minor illnesses, laboratory tests, gynecological care and pregnancy testing. The school board approved the clinic Dec. 16 but refused a UCLA request to dispense contraceptives to students.
