Affirmative Action Ruling

Share

It’s reported that “feminists” have praised the Supreme Court decision that a woman, Diane Joyce, should have been promoted over a man, Paul Johnson, despite his similar qualifications. Perhaps Joyce should have gotten the job--but not just because she is a woman.

I have long considered myself a feminist and I am saddened by the decision. Feminists support people’s rights--equal rights--regardless of sex or race. This ruling, which favors discrimination, is in conflict with the movement’s goals. I hope when true feminists have analyzed its implications they will view this as not a victory but a defeat.
