Wall Between Neighbors

Share

I bet most people don’t know that there is a scaled-down version of the “Berlin Wall” right here in Orange County. It dissects the land between Leisure World-Laguna Hills and its neighbors, the residents of Woodwinds Development off Moulton Parkway.

Of course, it hasn’t always been here. The moguls of Leisure World’s management decided that the residents’ homes and children pose a threat to their security. Imagine their accusation: Our homes can provide refuge to would-be burglars because the homes are built with backyards abutting the Leisure World cinder block-barbed wire wall. The remedy to this “threat”: Leisure World riddled the wall with holes, affixed more posts and began to erect three feet of chain link and then one additional foot of barbed wire to the existing six-foot cinder block wall.

You would think that the seasoned management of such a retirement entity would have learned one of life’s basic lessons by the time they qualify to live within their barbed wire walls. The lesson: “Love thy neighbor.”
