Cremation Awaits Those Without Funds

So where do the homeless go when they’re “called home?”

Not to a $10,000 grave site in Westwood.

Not necessarily even to a “potter’s field,” that nickname for a pauper’s burial ground. The name was derived from a Jerusalem burial place described in the Bible.

When somebody dies without funds, the person is cremated at the Los Angeles Crematory.

If the remains are not claimed after three years, they are buried in a common plot at Los Angeles County Cemetery in East Los Angeles, near Evergreen Cemetery. Established in 1877, Evergreen is the city’s oldest existing cemetery.

For homeless Catholics, it’s another story. They are buried in a plot provided by the Catholic Archdiocese at the Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Rowland Heights.
