Share

Two memorial scholarships, established at the USC School of Architecture to pay tribute to men who made substantial contributions to the study and practice of architecture, will be presented Wednesday for the first time at the school’s scholarship awards ceremony.

One scholarship is named for Thomas O. Byerts, the other for James A. Knowles.

Byerts, who died in 1984, earned two architectural degrees from USC and became director of architecture and environment for the Gerontological Society of America from 1971 to 1977. Knowles, who died last June, was a graduate of the USC School of Engineering before forming a company that became involved in the engineering of some of L. A.’s most notable structures including the Crocker Center.
