The Region : Three Killed, Fourth Hurt in Car Crash

Three people were killed and a fourth was critically injured in a high-speed crash on Laguna Canyon Road near Laguna Beach. The narrow highway, scene of more than 30 traffic deaths in the last 10 years, was closed for 15 hours while investigators inspected the straight stretch of road where a 1984 Nissan 300 ZX sports car and a 1987 Toyota Camry collided. James G. Miceli, 29, driver of the sports car, and Michael J. Conway, 31, both of Olathe, Kan., were killed instantly. Laguna Beach police said Miceli lost control of his car, swerved sideways across the median line and was hit broadside by the car driven by Wilfred Peloquin, 43, of Dade City, Fla., who also died instantly. Peloquin’s wife, Jeaneanne Peloquin, 33, was hospitalized in critical condition.
