A three-ton, $50,000 sculpture that was the first major work of art commissioned for O’Hare International Airport disappeared some time during the last 18 months, Chicago Aviation Department officials said Wednesday. The sculpture--a pair of aluminum triangles 20 feet long, 6 feet wide and 10 feet high by New York artist Barry Holden--was erected at the airport in September, 1979, but has since vanished, officials said. Spokeswoman Cathy Lang said she traced the sculpture to an airport storage bin, where it apparently was moved during construction to expand the airport. But “nobody knows what happened to it afterward,” she said.
