ON THE TOWN: The Cinemax Sessions series, which has spotlighted everyone from Carl Perkins to James Brown, heads for L.A. this week where the cable TV music program will tape “A Blues Session.” The show, directed and produced by veteran TV producer Ken Ehrlich, will feature performances by B.B. King, Etta James, Paul Butterfield, Albert King, Eric Clapton, Phil Collins, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Chaka Khan and Gladys Knight. . . . Billy & the Beaters, who have a trio of new songs in the sound track to the current Blake Edwards film, “Blind Date,” will headline a fund-raiser Wednesday for former Sen. Gary Hart, who is scheduled to make his presidential campaign official Monday in Denver. The benefit, at the Palace, will feature a host of celebrity “co-stars,” including Warren Beatty, Rosanna Arquette, Rob Lowe and Charlie Sheen. . . . The Whiskey, which has been a heavy-metal hotspot lately, has opened a regular Tuesday-night dance club, which is currently featuring live music by Swing 99, a local funk-rock band. . . . And the Fleshtones will make a rare L.A. appearance April 29, with Tom Verlaine, at the Variety Arts Theatre.
