USC’s Tennis Team Routs UCLA, 8-1

The USC tennis team won all six singles matches Saturday en route to an 8-1 victory over UCLA in a Pacific 10 match at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.

The top-ranked Trojans swept the singles to take a 6-0 lead. In the No. 1 singles match, three-time All-American Rick Leach improved his record to 22-3 with a 7-6, 6-4 win over Dan Nahirny.

Luke Jensen, John Carras and Scott Melville--the Nos. 2, 3 and 4 singles players--added three-set victories for the Trojans. The Bruins avoided a shutout when Nahirny and Tim Trigueiro defeated Carras and John Simerson in doubles.

USC is 27-0 overall, 7-0 in the conference. UCLA (19-5, 5-2) also lost to the Trojans at USC and in a tournament.
