Beer Sales at Gas Stations

The bill that would interfere with the right of the local city and county governments to ban the sale of alcohol and gasoline on the same premises is wrong--unless we want to change the state motto to “Booze Up Where You Gas Up.”

Instead of caving in to the powerful food and fuel lobby, elected officials like Assemblyman Condit and Los Angeles County District Attorney Ira Reiner, should listen to our state Highway Patrol officers who tell us gas and alcohol don’t mix. Then maybe they would marshal their colleagues in the Legislature to help reduce the incentive to drink while driving by passing a law banning the sale of alcoholic beverages anywhere in the state where gasoline is sold.
