Three hitchhikers were arrested early Tuesday after they allegedly forced a sailor to drive to El Cajon where they robbed him at knife point, police said.

El Cajon police said Joseph Maddock, 24, a crewman from the destroyer tender Cape Cod, picked up two men and a juvenile about 10:30 p.m. near Washington and India streets.

The three allegedly forced Maddock to drive to El Cajon, where they tied him up and robbed him, Officer Joel Hernandez said.

All three were being held on suspicion of robbery, kidnaping, forgery, assault with a deadly weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery, Hernandez said.
