Stolen Van Found at Border

A van used by a social service agency in its service to mentally ill homeless people was used to transport illegal aliens across the border after being stolen, according to police.

The Project Homebase van, which was reported stolen several weeks ago from a West Los Angeles garage, was discovered near the Mexican border on Tuesday. Police said that 13 undocumented aliens and two other persons were inside.

Robby Markovic, head of Project Homebase, said the van's radio and telephone are missing, as well as the records that were kept on clients.

Markovic said that the van will be repaired and put back on the streets as soon as possible.

The Project Homebase team cruises the streets of West Los Angeles, offering food and medical services to homeless people.
