WHO’S THE BOSS?: OK, you’ve probably heard the story by now--Bruce Springsteen is allegedly mulling over a possible bid for governor of New Jersey. According to a recent National Enquirer piece, which has been picked up in various newspapers and Hollywood trade publication columns, Springsteen has even consulted with Sen. Bill Bradley (D-N.J.) and local union officials who, the story claims, told Springsteen to run for the office in November, 1989.

The whole scenario sounded pretty preposterous to Pop Eye, so we asked one of Springsteen’s management execs if there was any truth to the tale. “Not at all,” said a management spokeswoman. “The Enquirer totally made it up. He’s not running for anything.” Not even for President, we asked, just to be sure (after all, the competition isn’t particularly stiff). “No,” the spokeswoman replied. “He’s not going to be on any ballot of any kind.”
