The Cat on the Telephone Pole
The story about the cat stuck up a pole in Anaheim really upset me. Something similar happened in Brooklyn when I still lived there--but with different results!
A sea gull got itself caught on the steeple of St. Mathias Church--a considerable distance higher than a utility pole. Did we leave it there to die? No, out came the firemen, extension ladders and all. It took well over an hour or more, but one fireman finally reached the top and, to resounding cheers from the crowd that had gathered, rescued the bird.
There are similar rescue stories in the Big Apple about dogs, cats, whatever. To those who are passing the buck out in Anaheim, I have one word: Shame. Where in God’s name is anyone’s heart?
