A $2.2-million carryover plus the net amount wagered in the Pick Nine today will be paid out to bettors today.

For the 24th racing day in a row, no one successfully picked nine winners Saturday, thus building the carryover to a North American record of $2,280,106.91. At this meeting, there is a mandatory payout of the entire net Pick Nine pool, including carryover, on the day after the carryover reaches $2 million.

When the mandatory payout occurs, any tickets correctly selecting all nine winners share the entire net pool, including carryover. If no one selects nine winners, however, tickets with the most winners share 70%, the next highest number of winners 15% and the third-highest number of winners 15%.

A crowd of 47,654 Saturday wagered $932,281 in the Pick Nine, a new high for Santa Anita.

The old record for a single-day Pick Nine pool was $674,184 on Feb. 1, 1986. On that day there was a carryover of $1,367,684, and one fan, Craig Phillips, had the single ticket with all nine winners. That ticket was worth $1,906,491, a North American pari-mutuel payoff record.

The Pick Nine then was a basic $1 wager, but now the minimum bet is $2.

The closest to picking nine winners Saturday were 12 tickets with seven winners, each worth $9,313.40.
