William McGill, appointed by San Diego Mayor Maureen O’Connor to help resolve a labor dispute between the San Diego Symphony Assn. and musicians, says he doubts the association’s fund-raising campaign will reach its $2-million goal by May 15. If it doesn’t, the orchestra’s 1987-88 season is in jeopardy. McGill and orchestra board president Herbert Solomon refused to say how much money has been collected so far. Solomon said the symphony association needed to raise at least $1.5 million to cover its debts. McGill said a labor dispute that silenced the orchestra late last year was “very close to being settled.” An informal contract agreement was reached in March.
