Westminster : Family Left Homeless After Saturday Fire

A family of four was forced to find temporary shelter over the weekend after a fire severely damaged the family home, a Fire Department dispatcher and a county Red Cross volunteer said.

The identity of the family was not immediately available. There were no injuries, the Fire Department dispatcher said.

A department spokesman said the blaze, reported at 5:10 p.m. Saturday, did an estimated $60,000 in damage to the home in the 9200 block of Poppy Circle. The cause has not yet been determined, but investigators are looking into whether a spark or ember from the chimney was to blame, the spokesman said.

“According to our damage assessment people, the roof did come down,” said John Hall, Red Cross volunteer spokesman. “I do not have a dollar amount (of the damage), but they did say it was a total loss.”

Hall said the family will stay with relatives while the house is rebuilt. The Red Cross provided food and clothing to the family, he said.
