Gary Hart, the front-runner for the Democratic presidential nomination, again has demonstrated broad voter appeal by outscoring each of three leading contenders for the Republican nomination in a Gallup survey completed last Sunday, the day before he formally announced his candidacy. Hart was the choice of 50% of registered voters to 42% for Vice President George Bush, with 8% undecided. Hart’s slim margin over Bush is similar to surveys conducted earlier this year. In test elections pitting Hart against other contenders for the GOP nomination, Hart leads Sen. Bob Dole by a 47% to 37% vote and beats Rep. Jack Kemp, 58% to 24%.
