An off-duty Long Beach policeman shot and wounded a 21-year-old Navy seaman who pointed a “very realistic” replica of a Colt .45 automatic weapon at the officer, police said. William Fletcher, a crewman aboard the Paul S. Foster docked at the Long Beach Naval Station, was treated for a gunshot wound in an arm and booked on suspicion of assault on a police officer, whose name was not disclosed. Police Department spokesman Sgt. Paul Milovich said the officer, who was in civilian clothes, was driving to work in his own car when Fletcher--in a car with two other sailors--pointed the replica at the officer.
