Safety on Laguna Canyon Road
One cannot fail to be moved by the numerous fatalities on Laguna Canyon Road, or to express sympathy at the loss of life. All too many people have been killed or injured on this road.
However, the causes of the accidents are excessive speed and intoxication more often than the condition of the road. A superhighway in and out of Laguna Beach is not the way to go when neither the city streets or Coast Highway can handle increased traffic flow.
I think the only way to handle this problem is to stringently enforce drinking and speed laws, and widen the road where it can be widened.
