Outfielder Dwayne Murphy, injured in a collision with A’s teammate Mike Davis in a game against the Angels Wednesday at Anaheim, will be out four to eight weeks after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right knee, the team said Saturday.

“There was a piece of ripped cartilage that was taken out,” Oakland team physician Allan Pont said. “There was no major damage to any ligaments. He recovered well.”

Davis suffered a concussion in the collision but, according to Pont, “could be back as soon as tomorrow (today) or in two weeks. We’ll examine him every day.”

Murphy was placed on the 15-day disabled list before the surgery in San Francisco’s Children’s Hospital Saturday.
