Norman Goldbach will receive the Chaver...

Norman Goldbach will receive the Chaver Tov (Good Friend) award from Chaverim on June 16, when the agency hosts a performance of “I’m Not Rappaport” at the Henry Fonda Theater. Goldbach is a board member of the Westside-based Chaverim and a fund-raiser for the Jobs Exchange Network and Partners With Industry. Both organizations provide job training for developmentally disabled adults and assist them in finding employment. Chaverim also provides opportunities for disabled Jewish youths to participate in recreational, cultural and religious activities.

Deena Bubis Eytan is the new director of development for Bet Tzedek Legal Services. Eytan formerly was development coordinator at the Seattle Art Museum.

Daniel D. Villanueva of Pacific Palisades has been elected to the American Red Cross national board of governors. Villanueva is president and general manager of Spanish-language television station KMEX and is a past recipient of the Citizen of the Year award for outstanding community involvement, presented by the Central East District of the Red Cross Los Angeles chapter.

Sherry Lansing, Carl M. Rheuban and David Wilstein will co-chair the Gala Los Angeles Community Celebration of Yom Yerushalayim (Jerusalem Day) on May 26 at the Century Plaza. The event will be produced by Aish HaTorah Jerusalem, an international educational outreach program designed to teach Jewish young adults about their heritage.

Santa Monica resident F. Jeffrey Callender has been named director of the Los Angeles Junior Chamber of Commerce. Callender is assistant vice president of corporate relations for Security Pacific National Bank.

Elaine T. Rudolph has been chosen as Region IX Accountant Advocate of the Year by the U. S. Small Business Assn. Rudolph is president of Accounts Plus in Westwood.

Rabbi Allen S. Maller will be honored at a special Shabbat service, marking 20 years as leader of Culver City’s Temple Akiba, on May 15 and a party on May 16, at the Santa Monica Pier carrousel. Maller is a graduate of UCLA and Hebrew Union College, a past president of Southern California Assn. of Reform Rabbis and is now president of the National Jewish Hospitality Committee.

Sid Skolnik of West Hollywood has been named to the newly created position of director of development for the Westside-based, nonprofit Jewish Television Network, according to Alan Block, network president. Skolnik was a U. S. Army correspondent in Korea and a news editor with Pacific Stars & Stripes in Tokyo before joining the Jewish Community council of Los Angeles in 1955.

Prof. Gary T. Schwartz has been named recipient of the 1987 Rutter Award for Excellence in Teaching at the UCLA School of Law. Schwartz teaches courses in torts, workers’ injuries and administrative law. Attorney William A. Rutter established the annual award to recognize excellent teaching in a profession which places major emphasis on research and writing.

Beverly Hills resident Robert E. Petersen has been elected to the Natural History Museum Foundation board of trustees. Petersen is chairman of the board of Petersen Publishing.

Century City public-interest attorney Barry A. Fischer was honored recently by Dean Howard Orenstein of National University in appreciation of his contributions to the annual F. Lee Bailey National Moot Court Competitions. The contest was established in 1982 to foster advocacy skills in American law students through structured matches simulating the competitive realities of a quality law practice.

Former Malibu Municipal Judge John H. Merrick will receive an honorary doctor of laws degree from Pepperdine University’s School of Law at its commencement ceremony on May 16 at 2 p.m. U. S. Sen. Mark O. Hatfield (R-Ore.) will join Merrick as an honorary doctor of laws degree recipient and will give the commencement address to the 178 law-degree candidates.
