Local News in Brief : Council to Seek Book Funds From State
The Los Angeles City Council voted Tuesday to seek $50,000 from the state for childrens’ books for eight libraries and two bookmobiles in low-income areas.
In the San Fernando Valley, the Canoga Park and Sun Valley libraries and a bookmobile serving the Pacoima area would receive $5,000 each.
The funds are made available by the federal government and dispersed by the state librarian under a program established during President Lyndon B. Johnson’s administration to improve library services in low-income areas.
