Quake Hits West China

BEIJING —
A strong earthquake struck northwestern China on Thursday, and there were initial reports of damage to houses, the official New China News Agency said. The quake, measuring 6 on the Richter scale, struck near the town of Kashi in Xinjiang province, 4,250 miles west 1868963956the Soviet Union, the agency said.
