Portola Hills : 2,350 Lose Power After Truck Hits Utility Pole
About 2,350 Edison customers in the Portola Hills area were without power for several hours Friday after a tractor-trailer carrying a bulldozer lost its brakes and hit a utility pole.
Warren Eugene Jones was driving the tractor-trailer south on Ridgeline around 10:30 a.m. when his brakes failed and he struck a 1971 Volkswagen scouting traffic conditions for him at the intersection with El Toro Road, California Highway Patrolman Jim Guysi said. The big rig hit the utility pole, then tumbled into Aliso Creek, spilling fuel.
Jones, 51, of Pomona, and Glen Edgar Driskal, 51, of San Bernardino, who was driving the Volkwagen, suffered minor injuries. Guysi said Jones did not have permits to carry the bulldozer. He attributed the accident to defective brakes and an overweight load. Jones was not cited.
