A San Diego police officer was ordered Friday to perform 12 weekends of public-service work for exhibiting a weapon in a threatening manner to his daughter’s boyfriend.

Fausto Gonzalez, 41, also was fined $750 and placed on three years’ probation by San Diego Municipal Judge Joe Littlejohn.

Gonzalez pleaded guilty Feb. 6 to the weapon charge and battery upon his 18-year-old daughter, Mayra, when he slapped her. Both are misdemeanors.

The incident occurred Dec. 12 at the home of Gonzalez’s ex-wife. The boyfriend, Paris Jones, 18, was allegedly kicked in the face and chest.

Deputy Dist. Atty. Bonnie Dumanis had asked the judge to sentence Gonzalez to 90 days in jail. Gonzalez has been assigned to light duty, Dumanis said.

In 1983, Gonzalez, a 10-year veteran, was acquitted of assault under the color of authority against street people.
