Local News in Brief : Injured Suspect Caught After High-Speed Chase

A burglary suspect who had been shot by San Fernando police led officers on a high-speed chase over four freeways Friday before he was caught in South-Central Los Angeles, authorities said.

Lewis A. Hutchinson, 31, of Los Angeles was arrested on suspicion of burglary and violation of parole and was being held without bail in the jail ward at County-USC Medical Center, San Fernando Police Lt. Dan Peavy said.

Hutchinson was seen fleeing a liquor store in San Fernando at 3:13 a.m. and was stopped on the Golden State Freeway by a San Fernando patrol officer, Peavy said.

According to Peavy, Hutchinson reached for a gun on the seat of the car and was shot once in the left arm by the unidentified officer. Hutchinson then fled south on the Hollywood, Ventura and Harbor freeways at speeds up to 105 m.p.h., Peavy said.

A Los Angeles police air unit and the California Highway Patrol assisted in the pursuit. Hutchinson was arrested at Broadway between 95th Street and Manchester Avenue about 3:30 a.m., Peavy said.
