The search of an impounded charter bus turned up $5,019 in spare parts suspected of being stolen from the Southern California Rapid Transit District’s store houses, according to transit Police Chief James Burgess. The owner of the charter bus is veteran RTD bus driver Vernon Holloway, who was arrested last month on suspicion of grand theft. A second long-time RTD maintenance supervisor, Franklin Jack, also was arrested on suspicion of supplying Holloway with the parts. Transit police obtained a search warrant for Holloway’s bus and found 10 RTD parts, including a $350 starter which still bore RTD identification tags. Burgess said the $5,000 engine block had all of its identification numbers removed and it was impossible to determine where it came from.
