2 Bodies Identified as Escapees
Two men who died in a flaming trailer last weekend after they fired on law enforcement officers have been positively identified as California prison escapees, officials said today.
Escapee Steven M. Miller was identified from medical and dental records and John (Doc) Whitus Jr. from fingerprints on a coffee can found at the scene, Sheriff Chuck O’Reilly said. Miller, 34, of Ontario and Whitus, 36, of Oakland escaped together in February, 1986, from a state prison in Vacaville, where both had been sent after being convicted of double murders.
