A man and two friends murdered a Visalia woman for her son’s gun collection so they could fight in the Mexican army or go to Vietnam and search for American prisoners of war, a Modesto jury was told. John Leroy Calhoun, 21, is on trial in the January, 1985, murder of Silvia Teague. Christopher Seaman, 23, and Ryan Marshall, 21, were convicted of first-degree murder in separate trials. Deputy Dist. Atty. Melinda Reed told jurors that Marshall held Mrs. Teague at gunpoint while Calhoun took the guns of Alva Teague, 20, outside to Seaman. Then, she said, Calhoun gave a signal and Marshall shot the woman four times in the back of the head. The gun collection and 3,000 rounds of ammunition were recovered when the three were arrested several days later in Needles.
