Paleo Walk to the Digs Slated

An open Paleo Walk at Ralph B. Clark Regional Park in Buena Park is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. Friday.

“The walk is free, but people will have to pay $1.25 for parking,” said Steve Conkling, paleontologist for the county park. “All we ask is that they call and tell us they are coming so that we can make plans.”

The park’s 5,400-square-foot Interpretive Center won’t open until late this year, but Conkling already is seeking volunteers to help with the displays, the programs--some of which are now being conducted for school groups--and the scientific digging just east of the center. Experience, he stressed, is not a requirement.

When completed, the $632,000 center will contain an amphitheater seating 50 to 60, display space, a library and darkroom, two laboratories and a book and gift shop. Ground was broken for the project in April, 1985. The building’s hexagonal design allows for future expansion that would double its size, he said.
