Mark Hood, who started at fullback for the Cal State Fullerton football team last season, has been charged with a misdemeanor count of assault and battery for allegedly striking another student in the face.

Hood, 21, attacked William Eaken, 24, who is employed as a recreational supervisor, when Hood became upset because Eaken would not make change for him in the physical education building’s recreation office, campus police said.

Hood, a 5-foot 11-inch, 215-pound senior, is scheduled to be arraigned May 19 in North Orange County Municipal Court in Fullerton for the April 15 attack, the police report said.

Eaken, also a senior, suffered a cut lip and bruises on his nose and head, police said.

Charges against Hood were filed April 29.

According to police, Eaken told Hood that making change was against school policy. Hood left for a while but returned and asked for change again. When he was told a second time that it was against school policy, Hood became irate, pushed the office door open and hit Eaken, who is 5-5 and 120 pounds, “straight on with his right open palm,” the police report said.

Hood was unavailable for comment Saturday.
