Bosworth in Draft, Prefers Raiders

Brian Bosworth, seeking to pick his National Football League team rather than be picked by one he disdains, said Monday he will make himself available for the league’s supplemental draft.

The All-American linebacker from Oklahoma said he preferred to play in either Los Angeles or New York. He said the Raiders would be his top choice because of their rebel image.

“I like their attitude,” he said.

He also said that “more than half” the 28 teams would probably get letters telling them not to choose him because he would not play for them.

Bosworth passed up the regular draft April 28, which was his right because he had another year of eligibility remaining at Oklahoma. He subsequently lost that eligibility by retaining an agent. When he graduated last weekend, he became eligible to play in the NFL.

NFL officials noted Monday that players have asked teams not to draft them before, but have been drafted and played for those teams. Bosworth said, however, that he is serious about sitting out the season if not picked by the right team.

No date for the supplemental draft has been set.
