A San Jose television station that used to broadcast Jim and Tammy Bakker’s PTL Club filed a lawsuit against the Bakkers and their former evangelical ministry in Santa Clara County Superior Court for the non-payment of bills. KICU Channel 36 is seeking $140,250 for air time and contract obligations. “I don’t find this unusual,” said Craig Seiden, an attorney for the station. “TV ministers quite often don’t pay their bills. I’ve sued Jerry Falwell twice.” If the bills are not paid promptly, Channel 36 will use the legal proceedings to force PTL to reveal details about its financial affairs, Seiden said. PTL officials could not be reached for comment.
