Accidental Shot Kills a Neighbor 2 Apartments Away
A bullet fired accidentally went through two walls and killed a Chatsworth man two apartments away, Los Angeles police said Tuesday.
The bullet struck Gregory Fowler, 25, in the upper back about 8:30 p.m. Monday, Detective Steve Vrazner said. A neighbor, Michael Lewis Grider, 21, was arrested on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter, Vrazner said.
The two men’s apartments are on the first floor of a two-story apartment building in the 9900 block of DeSoto Avenue. Another apartment separates their dwellings, Vrazner said.
Grider was handling a .44-caliber Magnum revolver when it discharged accidentally, the detective said. The bullet went through a plasterboard wall, passed through the apartment of a 19-year-old woman and went through another wall before hitting Fowler, Vrazner said. The resident of the intervening apartment was home, but not injured.
Grider was being held at the Devonshire Division police station in lieu of $16,000 bail, Vrazner said.
