Walter Payton of the Chicago Bears confirmed that he will meet with Commissioner Pete Rozelle to explore the possibility of becoming the principal owner of a National Football League expansion franchise. Payton, 32, the league’s all-time rushing leader, would not say when he plans to retire as a player, but it could be at the end of the upcoming season. The NFL has plans to expand in 1988.
