San Gabriel : Group Seeks to Halt Project
The Citizens for Responsible Development, a group of residents opposed to the development of an 11.5-acre hotel complex on Valley Boulevard, are collecting signatures calling for a referendum to stop the project.
The City Council unanimously approved a zoning change last month, which would pave the way for the project, despite complaints from the group and other residents.
The group needs 1,390 signatures by June 4 to put the issue on the ballot, said Gary Meredith of the Citizens for Responsible Development.
The group is also planning a petition campaign to put a measure on the ballot that would place a one-year moratorium on new building in the city, Meredith said.
