Share

Investigators had no leads Wednesday in the search for a man who kidnaped and robbed a couple as they sat in a car at a mini-mall just after midnight, police said.

Spokeswoman Ruby Bujak said Rick D. Pot of Newport Beach and Laurie Horner of Tustin, both 29, were sitting in his car at 12:20 a.m. in the parking lot of a mini-mall in the 17400 block of East 17th Street when they were approached by a man with a towel covering his face and carrying a revolver.

The man, described by police as a Latino between 20 and 30 years old, robbed Pot of $30, then locked him in the trunk of the car. The thief then drove the car to a parking lot a block away where he stole $60 from Horner, Bujak said.

There he was spotted by a security guard as he was tying her hands. The man fled, and officers, aided by police dogs, were unable to find him, Bujak said.

Pot and Horner were not injured.

Police described the suspect as 5 feet 10 inches tall with shoulder-length dark hair. He was wearing white pants and a blue-striped shirt.
