Agencies Outline Plans for Summer Youth Camps

Four Westside agencies have announced summer camp programs.

The Bay Cities Jewish Community Center will sponsor a travel camp for children ages 10 through 12 from July 7 through 31 and from Aug. 3 through 28.

Participants will meet at the center, 2601 Santa Monica Blvd., each morning at 9:30 and will return at 4 p.m. after excursions to beaches, historical sites, museums, sporting events, theme parks and other activities. The Wilshire Family YMCA will offer sports day camps, including classes in volleyball, basketball, baseball and softball, for junior high and high school students at Los Angeles City College. The camps are designed for individuals who want to learn the fine points of their favorite sport. Camps will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily and the fee is $60. The West Los Angeles YWCA, 10936 Santa Monica Blvd., is registering boys and girls ages 5 through 12 for its day camp. Activities include excursions, tours, dance, sports and arts and crafts. The cost is $70 a week. For more information call (213) 478-1228 or 270-4117.

The Westside Jewish Community Center, 5870 W. Olympic Blvd., will sponsor two day camps. Camp Chai, for children in kindergarten through sixth grade, includes swimming, weekly trips, drama, crafts, Israeli folk dance and Friday Oneg Shabbat celebrations. It will meet in Rancho Park.

Camp Maccabiah is a sports day camp for children in grades three through nine. Activities include swimming, tumbling, racquetball, canoeing, sailing, weight training and wind-surfing.

The dates for both camps are June 29 to July 24 and from July 27 to Aug. 21, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information call (213) 938-2531, Ext. 247.
