Countywide : Honors Doled Out for Helping to Ease Traffic

Companies and individuals were honored Thursday by Orange County transportation officials for their contribution to easing traffic congestion.

Trophies were handed out in these four categories:

Ride sharing--Centeride, Newport Center’s van-pooling and minibus program; Flojet of Irvine; Safeco Insurance Co. ride-share coordinator Helen McDaniel; the City of Newport Beach for its trolley; South Coast Plaza for its shuttle bus service.

Flexible work hours--Anaheim Disposal; Continental Insurance Co. of Newport Beach; Genisco Peripheral Systems of Cypress.

Employee incentives--Kawasaki Motors Corp. of Irvine, for constructing employee bicycle racks and showers; UC Irvine, for giving free bus passes to students and staff.

Traffic circulation--City of Anaheim, for its changeable message signs and radio broadcasts; Northeast Anaheim Traffic Management Assn.; Orange County Register for stories on traffic; Wayne Wedin of Wedin Enterprises Inc. of La Habra, for organizing business interest in transportation problems.

The awards were sponsored by the Orange County Transportation Commission, the Industrial League of Orange County, the Orange County Chamber of Commerce, the Orange County Transportation Coalition, the Building Industry Assn. and the Orange County Transit District.
