A Beverly Hills salesman who told police that he was robbed of $500,000 worth of jewelry at gunpoint on a downtown Beverly Hills street has changed his story, according to Beverly Hills Police Sgt. Michael Corren. Richard Landi, 45, who works as a salesman for Nicole Jewelry, told police that he was robbed while returning to his car in the 9400 block of Gregory Way after showing the collection at a nearby shop. He told police that someone held what he thought was a gun to his right ear, told him not to turn around and fled to a waiting car with the leather briefcase filled with jewelry. Landi gave a sketchy description of the robber, Corren said. Police could find no witnesses. However, Landi later called police to tell them that he had not been held up and that the jewelry had actually been stolen from the trunk of his car.
