Earnest Riggins, San Diego State’s women’s basketball coach, announced Thursday that five players have signed national letters of intent to play for the Aztecs next season.

The five, four of whom are guards, are Karen Chariker, a 6-foot guard-forward from MiraCosta Junior College in Oceanside; Stephanie Lamar, a 5-10 guard from College of the Desert in Palm Springs; Vyselka Orstil, a 5-2 guard from Merritt JC in Oakland; Melanie Usher, a 6-0 forward from Crenshaw High in Los Angeles, and Kim Wilson, 5-7 guard from Brighton High in Brighton, Ala.

Lamar won the state junior college scoring title a year ago, averaging 30.0 points per game and twice scoring 52 points in a contest. She is the second consecutive state JC scoring champion recruited by Riggins; the other is 6-9 center Connie Waikle. Orstil and Lamar were both members of the All-State JC first team.
