Santa Ana : Youth Accused in Girl’s Murder Kept in Custody

Share

A youth who was charged with the slaying of his one-time girlfriend was ordered Friday to remain in the custody of juvenile authorities, and a trial date was set for June 3.

Carlos Alberto Tirado, 17, was arrested on a murder warrant in the death of Norma Isla Ramirez, 14, a case that had baffled Santa Ana police for almost two years. The girl’s body was severely mutilated with a hatchet or machete on May 28, 1985, and was not found until three days later.

Tirado denied the charges at his detention hearing, and Judge David Carter ordered that he be kept in custody until the trial.

If convicted, Tirado could be held by the California Youth Authority until he turns 25.
