Irvine : Newswoman to Speak at College Commencement
Barbara Riegle, Orange County bureau chief for KFWB radio, will speak Thursday at the second annual commencement ceremony of Irvine Valley College.
The community college, formerly the north branch of Saddleback College, became an independent entity in 1985.
The commencement ceremonies this year will be at 6 p.m. in the campus courtyard.
Riegle has been in broadcast news for 30 years. She started as news director and anchor with WRBL-TV in Columbus, Ga. Her other positions have included work with KNXT and KABC-TV in Los Angeles. She also was a political reporter for the Los Angeles Herald Examiner in the 1960s.
In 1969, she became one of the first women admitted to Sigma Delta Chi, Society of Professional Journalists. She is a former president of the Orange County Press Club.
