The Region : Ed Davis to Seek 3rd Term

Share

State Sen. Ed Davis, hoping to fend off a potential Republican primary challenge, officially declared his candidacy for reelection in 1988, nine months before candidates must inform the state that they intend to run. Davis, 70, of Valencia, is a law-and-order conservative and former Los Angeles police chief who unsuccessfully sought the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate last year. He said he will emphasize his record on law enforcement and education in seeking his third term. Assemblywoman Cathie Wright of Simi Valley said she may oppose Davis in next year’s GOP primary in the 19th Senate District. Wright, 57, is an ally of former Rep. Bobbi Fiedler, a Northridge Republican with whom Davis clashed during the U.S. Senate primary over charges, later dismissed, that the Fiedler forces tried to buy Davis out of the race.
